Anatomy and Pathology
The knee is actually two joints within the one joint cavity. There is the joint between the thigh bone (Femur) and the knee cap (Patella) and the joint between the femur and the shin bone (Tibia). We commonly see problems with these joints. The main problem we see with the femur-tibia joint is associated with pathology of the Cranial Cruciate Ligament (Cranial Cruciate Ligament Rupture or Degeneration), whilst the main problem we see with the femur-patella joint is luxation or dislocation of the patella (patellar luxation).
