Consulting

We know how stressful driving anywhere can be, let alone driving your pet to an unfamiliar Veterinary Practice. When you arrive people like Janet (one of our receptionists) will make you welcome with a cup of whatever warm drink takes your fancy. The receptionists will guide you through the paperwork needed to register you and your pet and manage any insurance related form filling. If your pet is very unwell (as a result of a Road Traffic Accident for example, the receptionists will organise one of our nurses to come through and assess your pet and if necessary, admit him or her temporarily to a quiet ward area for further assessment.

We have 3 spacious consulting rooms which are furnished with comfortable seats. An initial consultation lasts for 1 hour, and so we want to ensure our patients and clients are as comfortable and relaxed as possible. We have fold down examination tables to create more space. It is important to us that our patients are relaxed and not anxious about being in a veterinary environment. At the start of the consultation your pet will be allowed to settle while our surgeon takes a complete history. To all intents and purposes this will seem like a conversation between people which doesn’t involve them. Often some dogs become so relaxed they may fall asleep. After the history taking we take our patients outside for a walk so that we can assess lameness. Again this should be as stress free for your pet as possible. Only later will the surgeon examine your pet, once they are more relaxed. The vet will then discuss possible diagnoses, and what we may need to do to achieve this, with all the treatment options. If it is decided that your pet needs to stay with us for tests or surgery you will then meet one of our Ward nurses who will go through the admissions procedure with you.
